Professional Pool Table Bumper Replacement & Custom Services
When Your Table Needs More Than a Quick House Call
Some pool table services require more than a simple on-site visit. When your table needs cushion replacement, custom modifications, or complete restoration, the work happens in our shop using specialized equipment and techniques that can't be replicated at your location.
These are the services for serious players, table owners looking to restore an heirloom piece, or anyone who wants their table to play better than it did brand new.
Re-Rubbering: Professional Cushion Replacement
Why Cushions Matter
No matter how well a table is set up, no matter what cloth it has on it, if the rubber is bad the pool table won't play anywhere near like it should. Dead or inconsistent cushions affect every shot that touches a rail.
Pool table cushions naturally deteriorate over time. The rubber hardens, loses its responsiveness, and eventually stops providing the consistent rebound that makes pool playable. Age, temperature fluctuations, and simple use all contribute to cushion degradation.
Signs Your Cushions Need Replacement
Balls bounce at inconsistent angles
Rails feel hard or produce dull, muted rebounds
Visible gaps between the rubber and the rail wood
Cushions are more than 20 years old
Your table doesn't play right even though the cloth and level are fine
If we're out for a recover and discover your cushions are bad or going bad, we will not put fresh cloth on those rails. It's not worth covering bad rubber with good cloth. The table still won't play right. We can still handle moves and setups, and we'll level and bolt everything back together, but the cloth work waits until the cushions are right.
How Re-Rubbering Works
Cushion replacement can't be done at your home. It requires table saws, specialized jigs, and other shop equipment to remove old rubber, prepare the rails, and mount new cushions properly.
The Process:
On-site visit #1: We remove the rails from your table and transport them to our shop
Shop work: We strip the old rubber, install fresh professional-grade cushions, and recover the rails with new cloth
On-site visit #2: We return with your completed rails and finish the installation on your table
Turnaround time: Usually two weeks, sometimes less depending on our shop schedule.
What's Included
Complete removal and installation of K-66 profile cushion rubber (industry standard)
Fresh cloth on the rails (you choose the grade and color)
Proper rail installation and alignment
3-year warranty against cushion failures
Important Notes About Re-Rubbering
Fresh cloth is required. Old rail cloth cannot be saved during this process. Re-rubbering always includes recovering the table with new cloth of your choice.
Labor pricing is separate. The labor for a re-rubber covers mounting new cushions and preparing the rails. It does not reduce the cost of the cloth change, since both processes are performed. The total cost includes both re-rubbering labor and cloth installation.
Mileage applies to both visits. Since we make two trips (one to retrieve rails, one to complete installation), mileage costs may apply depending on your location.
Rubber upgrades available. We use professional-grade K-66 cushion rubber as our standard. If you'd like to specify a particular brand or profile, we can accommodate that, though additional costs may apply.
The Silver Lining
The modern cushion rubber we use doesn't degrade like factory rubber. Once we replace your cushions, you shouldn't have to do it again in the table's lifetime. It's a one-time investment that fundamentally improves how your table plays—often better than it played when new.
Pocket Close-Ups: Tournament-Grade Modifications
What Is a Pocket Close-Up?
A pocket close-up makes the pockets on your pool table smaller, increasing the difficulty and forcing better shot-making. This is one of the most popular services for serious players or anyone looking to take their game to the next level.
Standard recreational pockets: 5 inches wide in the corners
Tournament/league pockets: 4.5 inches in the corners
Professional tight pockets: 4 inches in the corners
Half an inch doesn't sound like much, but it changes everything. Balls that would have dropped on a recreational table will miss entirely on tournament-spec pockets. You're forced to shoot more accurately, eliminate slop, and develop cleaner habits.
How We Perform Pocket Close-Ups
We don't just shim the pockets narrower—that creates inconsistent openings and affects rail response. We do it properly by rebuilding the rails themselves.
The Process:
Add wood to both ends of each rail to narrow the gap
Install fresh cushion rubber across the extended rails
Re-cover the rails with new cloth
Ensure consistent pocket dimensions and rail response
Because this process requires fresh rubber and complete rail reconstruction, every pocket close-up includes a full re-rubbering with standard K-66 cushions.
Standard Specifications
Unless otherwise discussed, our pocket close-ups take recreational 5-inch corner pockets down to tournament-spec 4.5-inch corners. If you want tighter or have specific dimensions in mind, we can accommodate that—just let us know during consultation.
What's Included
Rail modification and extension
Complete re-rubbering with professional-grade cushions
Fresh cloth on rails and bed (your choice of grade and color)
Consistent tournament-spec pocket dimensions
3-year warranty on cushion work
Pricing Note
Pocket close-ups take significantly more shop time than standard re-rubbering due to the precision woodwork and rail modification required. However, since the service includes a complete re-rubber, you're getting both modifications in a single project.
Table Refinishing & Restoration
Breathe New Life Into an Old Table
Have an older table that's seen better days? Want to restore a family heirloom or turn a rough vintage find into a showpiece? We handle complete table refinishing and restoration projects for customers who want to preserve quality tables rather than replace them.
Refinishing a pool table is a long, detail-intensive process. It involves stripping old finishes, repairing wood damage, addressing structural issues, applying new stains or paint, and finishing the work to a high standard. Every table is different in style, condition, and what the owner wants to achieve.
What Refinishing Can Address
Faded, damaged, or outdated wood finishes
Scratches, dents, and surface damage to rails and cabinets
Water damage or finish deterioration
Structural repairs to frames, legs, or aprons
Color changes or complete aesthetic updates
Matching existing furniture or décor
How We Approach Restoration Projects
Because every table and every restoration is unique, we bid these projects on a case-by-case basis. We need to see the table, understand its condition, and know what you're hoping to accomplish before we can provide an accurate estimate.
To get started:
Contact us with photos of your table from multiple angles
Include close-ups of any damage or problem areas
Let us know what your vision is for the finished product
Tell us your timeline and budget expectations
From there, we'll provide a detailed proposal outlining the work required, materials needed, timeline, and cost.
What to Expect
Refinishing projects take time—often several weeks depending on the scope of work and the condition of the table. These aren't quick turnarounds, but the results are worth it. A properly restored table can last another lifetime and become a centerpiece of your game room.
We don't rush restoration work. If we're going to do it, we're going to do it right.
Why Our Shop-Based Services Are Different
Professional Equipment & Environment
Our shop has the tools, space, and controlled environment needed for precision work. Table saws for cutting rails to exact dimensions. Jigs for mounting cushions at perfect angles. Proper ventilation and climate control for finishing work. This isn't something you can replicate in a garage or basement.
Modern Materials That Last
The cushion rubber we use is professional-grade material that doesn't break down like factory rubber. The finishes and materials we apply are chosen for durability and performance, not just cost. We use what we'd want on our own tables.
Experience With Every Table Type
We've worked on antique Brunswick tables, modern imports, custom-built bar tables, and everything in between. We understand how different manufacturers build their tables and what it takes to work on each style properly.
We Don't Cut Corners
Shop work takes time because we do it right. Rails are measured precisely. Cushions are mounted at exact heights and angles. Finishes are applied with multiple coats and proper cure time between layers. Rushing creates problems that show up later—we'd rather take the time upfront.
